Not today but yesterday I cleaned the ceiling of the porch and removed months if not years of accumulated dirt and cobwebs. Nobody will probably notice, but that's okay. It's a good job done and no praise to give me an even bigger head. Today more or less a day of rest although I'm off to drop off a present to my dentist who's just retired.
I don't know how to post a photo for you. But I enjoyed your writing. My whole life I've felt the draw of the sea but finally went out past the surf for the first time on an Alaskan halibut fishing trip in my 50th year. I'm back home from a week away from home for work and I'm enjoying watching a Sunday sunrise over Idaho. I hope you heal up well.
That's great. Alaska is an amazing place. I spent a full summer there once on the cruise ships. It's like prehistoric Norway, in a way. So much wildlife. It's the one place I always recommend people go to. Although I've never made it to Idaho. My travels tend to have a coastal theme. :)
Sorry you are in such pain, hope you can find relief soon. I have led an underachieving life. In later years I devoted a high level of caregiving to my father who passed at 100. Now I try to stay in good enough shape (post aortic valve, triple bypass, prostate cancer radiation) to extend the runway to invest and grow assets to leave to niece and family. Here’s my recent so-called art : https://www.instagram.com/p/DAPFTlJvhtN/?igsh=MTdveDF3cDEzNm41Zg==
Thanks, Thomas. And thank you for sharing. Being with family is an achievement. 100%. I think simply 'being' is one of the most undervalued things in our time.
Sharing is synthesizing, I guess. It can come together in the ether, with a look, in conversation vocally and in print, in art. One point of view combine with another’s point of view. Over 77 years, the only thing I really own is my opinion, my point of view. Each person’s is unique and each opinion is ripe for synthesizing.

I have just finished a 10 day workshop entitled "Return to Love" with 60+ others from Germany, Spain, France, Hong Kong, Holland and the UK I’ve probably missed some nationalities. We said goodbye to each other about an hour ago and it was sweet. I didn’t have far to travel home and I’ve picked some tomatoes from my garden and played with my 3 dogs. I know just how painful a broken big toe is and I’m amazed you can walk. I hope it heals quickly
Undoubtedly being at sea provides a completely different perspective, Scott. The photos were wonderful and I tried to work out how to post a photo of a late snowstorm in the Snowy Mountains but substack didn't seem to permit it. Thanks for your insights and tales from sea. What an amazing thing that you can do long periods of work with only 3 emails from bosses! Perhaps this should be an organization KPI?
I spend every Friday afternoon with my grandson, Jed. We've been doing this every week since he could walk, basically.
When it's nice out we go for walks on the trails (I live the Pacific Northwest) or spend time at the park.
This few hours each week is one of the highlights of my life. I love watching him grow and learn. He's a very intelligent and sensitive boy who also loves to fight the bad guys.
When we walk the trails I always let him be the leader, as long as he promises to protect me from the bears and mountain lions. He assures me that's no problem because he's very strong.
I frequently video our walks so that my wife and his mom and dad can watch later. Some of our conversations are hilarious.
Thanks for sharing your stories. If you're ever out in the PNW, I'd love to meet up and share a pint with you.
So good. That's what it's all about, eh, Charles. And I'll definitely take you up on that if I'm ever in your neck of the woods again. I've been to Astoria, but unfortunately I wasn't allowed off the boat.

Nice.
Just back from Spain. All is well.
Glad to hear it. :)

Just back from US & CA so settling in to a lovely pint at the pub. ✔️✔️✔️
Nice one.

Your posts are enzymatic. THANK YOU
That's interesting. Thank you.

Me too! Thanks for sharing.
Played with my daughter all day. Nothing beats it.

I'm a great believer in Goodhart's law when it comes to metrics. "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure"
You see this problem all the time offshore. Ban all metrics, apart from end point deliverables, I say.
